Dear God (A Poem, A Letter to God)

I am here lost and wandering in strange waters

I hold my head up and I can’t breath

I can’t stay under water

For my fins have been eaten by the sharks

Dear God,

What do you do when you can’t go on?

What do you do when you are tired?

And full of weariness?

What do you do when good isn’t good enough?

What do you do when the faces of yesterday slip by so fast into nothingness?

What do you do when tomorrow is a cloak of hope and darkness?

Dear God,

I move along the walkway

And see a thousand shades of anguish

I ride with faces with stories

Those they do not wish to tell

Here all stories are in motion

Love, anger, anxiety, sadness and maybe more

This man seated beside me looks on

He has a bag of wares on his laps

I do not smile to him

He does not smile to me either

We do not smile to each other

Today isn’t the day of happy gestures

We acknowledge each other

By merely nodding

Perhaps, we shall meet again

To exchange the tales of our sojourns

But not today…

Today we carry on

We grasp unto our sanity

Like a child suckling the mother’s breast

It is all we have

It is all that promises to be ours

In this emptiness of nothingness

Dear God,

Today is the beginning of the end

I arise from my bed

And a taste of yesterday’s sadness lingers on

I make my way to wash it off

But it’s not something to be washed away

The blood won’t wash this one

This is an armor I wear

This bile is me

Dear God,

Are you there?

Can you hear me?

Or do you not listen to sinners

With sins thick on them like mire

If you can, do listen

Do watch

And do lift this oblivion
