The Man Who Forgot Life After Christmas

This poem is an eye opener ahead of the festivities. Here, in another pidgin rendition, Biade Fola tells the story of a man who overdid himself because he wanted to impress people back home, thereby oppressing his own savings.

Christmas dey rush at my broke ass if I be oni gbese

Wetin I go do, since I no get money?

Na to work extra days more ni

Last last  I booked my flight like bet9ja ticket

You know say poor man, we dey get etiquette

Con see as I dey beg I beg the pilot make e arrange for me, seat wey set

Wetin happen be say I wan impress my village people, but I no get money

So I dey oppress my earning,

Con see as I enter the airport like say nah me own Lagos,

And the pilot name nah Lookman, e no fit look away

But I no ‘Phil Jones’, so clear him say to dash him sontin nah own goal

Las las, our plane take off, we be men and women onboard so no fly boy issh.

As we dey go I dey enjoy no bad songs from fly boy inc

See, I be headmaster, I don master the route to Osun for my head well well

As we finally landed in Osun, I know say time don reach to impress my people

Where we land? No be Ido Osun airport o, that one never complete

E be like say you no know as e dey do me

The Igberaga wey dey my body, e no fit leave me

Ok, make I clear you, My pilot nah driver, the airport nah garage

So as I dey enter area, boys wey go hail me don show,

My head don enter swell mode nah to spend this doe,

Na why dey return to Lagos stark broke

Na why our Lagos hustle never pay

Stay woke. Be true to yourself this Christmas

Yo bro, there is life after Christmas and New Year, So don’t do pass yourself,

Or as Kizz Daniel talk am, “No go dey do pass yourself”

Peace, I’m out.
