What adulthood has taken from us and what it has given to us leave one with more questions than answers. Only if one can go back in time.
The Scam Called Adulthood
Twenty something years ago, I looked at older people and hoped I was as old as them.
I envied them and the “authority” and “privileges” they had. They could send kids on errands, they get to eat the biggest chunks, they get to sit in front of the TV anytime they want, they didn’t have to do home works, they can’t kneel down and raise up their hands… Flip flash, today.. I’m on the other side if the divide. I’m old and grown but my satisfaction is still toddling.
It dawned on me that childhood is bae; you get to be an owner of a clean tearrubber conscience. Matters of the heart is only blood pumping. You don’t have to know how, food must sha be on the table. No fake life, no doing it for the cam.
Laughter’s and smiles were genuine and no crocodile tears. No dally dilly, inamanimo, choosy choosing; hard choices of life.
I wish could go back to being a child but eh, I’m stuck! Adulthood be like “we die here.” There was a time my father said “don’t worry when you grow up and finish school, it will be easier.” Thinking about it now, I think my old man was either being sarcastic or simply hoping. Las las adulthood nah scam!
Adulthood Freedom is a big hoax. The big man is enslaved by his commitments, his religion, his society, his family, his looks, his ideas, his beliefs, his ambitions, public opinion, his weakness, his principles… He’s a slave to himself.
I know some of you will want to drag me for the enslavement part. If you drag me, then you’re proving my point. Meaning you’re a slave to your opinion… Meanwhile, Abeg shey you get a formula wey fit ‘unadult’ me 😉
